2020 Racing Season PostponedKevin England
We have been continually monitoring and watching as the COVID-19 Pandemic continues to disrupt day to day life for people in Michigan and around the world. This has been a daily discussion as to how it is going to affect the 2020 racing season. After hearing the executive order handed out by Governor Whitmer we deeply regret that there is no choice but to postpone the start of the 2020 racing season at Galesburg Speedway.
We here at The Burg have been holding out hope, that by some miracle, opening night was going to go on as planned. As of right now our tentative plan is to open on Saturday, May 16th with an open practice on both Saturday and Sunday. Then running the Paps Dream 50 plus School Bus Figure Eight on May 23rd. We will be posting an updated schedule with all events as soon as possible on our website. This was not a decision that was easy to make and we are sure that some of you are going to be very disappointed. We fully understand because our hearts are broken too. We want nothing more than to open the track for everyone and that life can hurry up and get back to normal.
There is a process that must take place in order for us to open every year. These include inspections, water testing, safety inspections and other government requirements. In a normal season this process can be completed in 2 weeks. Providing that this can take place once we are legally allowed to open, we will proceed with an opening of Saturday, May 16th.
We can not thank you all enough for your support, this has been one of the hardest decisions we have ever had to make. We are going to need each and everyone of you when the gates finally open. We truly can not do this without everyone and we look forward to seeing all of you for what will still be a great 2020 racing season.
